10 Years Gone

In light of the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq today, I remembered the Frontline series, "The War Behind Closed Doors."  It provided what is now in hindsight an etiology of what lead to our involvement and eventual quagmire.  Even then, I was wary of our attempts to paint Iraq as another front on the Global War on Terrorism.  What a simple yet expensive facade.

8 Rules from Fight Club

  1. “No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide.”
  2. Again: “No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide.”
  3. “I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let’s evolve, let the chips fall where they may.”
  4. “It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.”
  5. “You’re not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank. You’re not the car you drive. You’re not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your fucking khakis.”
  6. “People do it everyday, they talk to themselves… they see themselves as they’d like to be, they don’t have the courage you have, to just run with it.”
  7. “Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.”
  8. “This is your life, and it’s ending one minute at a time.”

I came across this posting in another blog site while googling "Tyler Durden."  Fight Club is an amazing film and to boil it down to a few rules or quotes is  a disservice but simultaneously brings the overarching concept into focus.  So no complaints.  Just simple unadulterated enjoyment for such precipts that resonant at the core.  So what is the forensic inherent barrier to implementation?  Courage.

Hadley and the yellow eagle

Hadley and the yellow eagle This video was uploaded from an Android phone.

Why my daughter has an affinity for particular toys is beyond my cognitive comprehension.  The yellow eagle. Who would have thunk?  Her my mind and imagination is fertile and wide open.

In the light

This was taken at St. Elizabeth's church in KC on the 2nd floor outside the chapel. I followed Hadley upstairs as she was looking for "Jessie."  I am assuming it was Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story.  But in all honesty, Hadley would neither confirm or deny who Jessie was except for the fact she was missing.  Interesting.  Perhaps it was  an appariation that was only revealed to my daughter.

The Way We Were

Sniffle, sniffle... This is close as I get to a macchiato these days.   How I miss starting my days off downing a couple of macchiato te madhe.  My love of Kosovo and the Balkans stems from the simpler aspects like the people and their coffee. However it seems oxymoronic because of the tenuous under currents in their respective cultures which are far from simple but strong as a macchiato in the AM.
